Gianni Infantino has always supported the use of technology to erase doubts in football, and with that in mind, FIFA's president will keep testing VAR technology before allowing its use in the 2018 World Cup.
Speaking prior to the FIFA World Cup draw, Infantino admitted that refs from around the world need to get used to the system, and with that in mind, the announcement of its use could come three months before the beginning of the competition.
"We'll be in 2018 shortly, and we have to make sure that each ref and his team can make the right calls when using the system. Hence, we will decided if VAR technology will be used in next year's World Cup until March," Infantino stated.
Sepp Blatter's successor as FIFA president admitted that the system is not flawless, especially because the ref ends up making the final call, but he strongly believes that the use of technology will end up being embraced by the world of football due to all its benefits.
"The experience has been extremely positive so far. The judges have taken the right decisions with the help of VAR technology, even if they can still make mistakes due to the human factor involved in their job. But even then, teams benefit from its use and refs are not judged like they were before VAR arrived," FIFA's president added.
Infantino revealed that the use of goal-line technology will continue after being applied in the 2014 World Cup, regardless of whether VAR technology is approved or not.
