League leaders Bayern Munich were handed a significant boost in their title aspirations with their title rivals stuttering.

Another interesting weekend of football action unraveled in the German Bundesliga to present a new outlook to the league table. Defending champions Bayern Munich were accorded a little breathing space in their bid to retain the league title for a record-extending 10th successive season with their title rivals falling short in their respective outing.

The Bavarians hit all the right notes to secure an emphatic 4-0 win over Union Berlin following another inspirational performance by Robert Lewandowski. The Polish attacker grabbed a first half brace after Tanguy Nianzou and Kingsley Coman had already put the host up by two inside the first 25 minutes.

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund hit a snag in their title pursuit after being held to a disappointing 1-1 draw at Cologne. The result favored Bayern Munich who opened a six point gap atop the Bundesliga table ahead of the international break.

Elsewhere, fourth-placed RB Leipzig failed to reduce the gap between them and Bayer Leverkusen in third by picking up just a point in a drab 0-0 draw against Frankfurt at the Red Bull Arena. On the other hand, Leverkusen increased the point difference to three by defeating Wolfsburg in dramatic fashion. Gerardo Seoane's were inspired to a 2-0 win, thanks to substitute Paulinho's double in the 86th and 90th minutes respectively.

At the bottom half of the Bundesliga table, both Stuttgart and Hertha Berlin boosted their survival hopes by securing respective wins. The former defeated Augsburg via a 3-2 scoreline while the latter managed a remarkable 3-0 win over Hoffenheim. Below is how the Bundesliga table looks like ahead of the international break:
