The Premier League club has revealed that they are aware of the latest developments around the player.

Manchester United have issued a statement regarding Greenwood, stating that he is still suspended following his rearrest on Saturday. The 21-year-old striker has been charged with attempted rape, using coercive behaviour, and assault resulting in actual bodily damage after an alleged breach of bail conditions.

The Greater Manchester Police first detained Greenwood in January of this year in connection with the alleged rape and assault of a young woman after pictures and videos were uploaded online. In addition, he was also interrogated on the suspicion of making threats to kill but has since been on bail. On Saturday, new reports emerged that the former England international has now been arrested again on the suspicion of contacting his alleged victim, breaching the conditions of his bail in the process. The player was picked up in the early morning by the police.

"The Crown Prosecution Service has today authorised Greater Manchester Police to charge Mason Greenwood, 21, with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm," the Crown Prosecution Service said in a statement.

"All three counts relate to the same complainant. Specialist rape prosecutors from CPS North West's complex casework unit authorised the charges following a review of a file of evidence received from Greater Manchester Police.

"The defendant's first court appearance will take place on Monday 17 October at Greater Manchester magistrates' court.

"The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against the defendant are active and that he has a right to a fair trial.

"It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice those proceedings."

Manchester United subsequently released a statement in r to the latest developments. It said: "Manchester United notes that criminal charges have been brought against Mason Greenwood by the Crown Prosecution Service.

"He remains suspended by the club, pending the outcome of the judicial process."
