Paramount+ is a global streaming service owned by ViacomCBS. It was announced late in 2020 as the replacement for video on-demand and live streaming service CBS All Access, and it was launched in early 2021. The rebranding from CBS All Access to Paramount+ took effect both in USA and Canada. To reach an international audience, the reach of Paramount+ was extended to Australia, Latin America and the Nordics the same year it was launched. The service was intended to be available in 18 Latin American countries in the first quarter of 2021.
Content from CBS All Access was carried over to Paramount+ upon the latter’s introduction, as part of efforts to give users a seamless transition. Paramount+ started with a catalog of over 30,000 episodes and more than 1,000 live sporting events, in addition to several more thousands of hours of kids and comedy programs. It premiered dozens of original series and offered subscribers access to news coverage from CBS News and local affiliate networks in USA.
Production studios that have been featured on Paramount+ include BET, CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, and Paramount Pictures. ViacomCBS has also doubled down on its sports coverage to boost the popularity of Paramount+ by shedding the spotlight on some of its marquee properties. At the time of the service’s launch, the company’s portfolio included college sports, the NFL, and UEFA competitions, along with CONCACAF action and the NWSL for soccer fans.
Paramount+ was developed to guarantee high quality streaming access on a wide variety of digital platforms, including smart TVs, computers and mobile devices.
