Zlatan Ibrahimovic could be facing fine and career-ending sanction

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been one of the most influential players since his debut, and he has been mentioned among the top players of his generation, even after his 39th birthday. Even so, the player could be facing a career-ending sanction due to an investigation by Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet.

The Swedish publication revealed that Zlatan could have violated FIFA and UEFA's Code of Ethics when it comes to his invesments, as he has been tipped to have an economic interest in the betting website known as Bethard.com, which is a direct infringement of the rules established by both football governing bodies, which forbid players to have an economic relationship with gambling websites or associations.

Hence, the Swedish footballer could be facing a sanction by both parties, which may come in the form of a fine or a playing ban. The latter should be the main cause for concern in Ibra's camp, as it could see the footballer being banned from playing for the next three years.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic had reportedly said he no longer had a relationship with the betting site, but the company's director, Erik Sharp, confirmed to the newspaper that Ibrahimovic still owns a share of the company's assets.

The former Manchester United footballer is currently negotiating a contract extension with Milan, which could see him extending his playing career after his 40th birthday. Nevertheless, this latest development may deprive fans from watching the footballer playing once more in the UEFA Champions League and battling for one more Scudetto with the rossoneri.
