América's coach gives transfer update ahead of Apertura 2019 kick-off

In an interview with Fox Sports México, América's coach Miguel Herrera shared details on how one more of his midfielders could leave the club alongside Edson Álvarez prior to the start of the Apertura 2019 tournament.

"El Piojo" and French midfielder Jeremy Ménez don't have the best player-coach relationship, and the talented footballer could see the end of his stint with Las Águilas due to the offer from an undisclosed team.

"He is still under contract with América. With such a talented squad to choose from, we are looking into the possibility of keeping him around. He told us that his agent came up with an offer, but if he chooses to stay, we have no problem. We have a good relationship," Herrera stated.

"El Piojo" will not change his policy when it comes to choosing a starting XI, which will see him electing those who are in better shape regardless of their name or reputation. If Ménez wants to stay, he will have to accept that policy and work to be included in all lineups.

"He is part of that inner competition we have. We brought in some reinforcements for all spots on the pitch, and he knows that he will be given a chance to play if I see him fit to do so," the boss added.

Herrera referred to Guido Rodríguez, Mateus Uribe and Roger Martínez, who have also been linked to exits from the Apertura 2018 champions.

"Edson is the only one with options to leave. There's nothing regarding Guido or Mateus. We've spoken to everyone and were fully focused ahead of the start of the tournament. There's nothing official regarding Edson, it is true that we received an offer, and it will surely come true in the next few days," Herrera concluded.
