The Stars and Stripes and Taegeuk Ladies meet again after a goalless draw between them on Thursday, Oct. 21. Their upcoming meeting on Tuesday will serve as the second game of an international friendly doubleheader.
Last time out between the USA and Korea Republic
USWNT manager Vlatko Andonovski decided to mix things up, starting four players who would not normally start in a competitive game. Goalkeeper Adriana Franch, defenders Tierna Davidson and Casey Krueger and midfielder Catarina Macario were given a chance from the start against South Korea. Lloyd was introduced in the second half, replacing forward Alex Morgan. However, she was unable to make a difference in her 315th international appearance.
As for Korea Republic head coach Colin Bell, he deployed his strongest 11 headlined by captain Ji So-Yun, attacking midfielder Cho So-Hyun and forward Lee Geum-min. Despite being outshot 19 to 8 and losing possession 68% to 32%, the Taegeuk Ladies were able to squeeze out an away draw against the top team in the world.
Saying farewell to Carli Lloyd
Soccer fans in the USA will say farewell to Lloyd on Tuesday after an exceptional 17-year international career. Most might remember her for her hattrick against Japan in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup final. But she was much more than that.
“I don’t want to be remembered for one World Cup final. I want to be remembered for my whole career. It was just a stepping stone, and I want to continue to get better.” - Carli Lloyd
