After months of waiting, fans can finally celebrate, as the 2024 NWSL season kicks off on Saturday, March 16th. Last season saw two first-time winners, with San Diego Wave clinching the NWSL shield for the first time, while NY/NJ Gotham won the Championship after emerging victorious in the post-season tournament.

Fans in the USA will be able to follow NWSL games via a variety of ways. Thanks to a new deal with ABC and ESPN, 20 games will be shown on these platforms. On matchday one, ABC will be showing the season opener, which stars Kansas City Current and Portland Thorns. The match will also be live-streamed (in both English and Spanish) via ESPN+, while Spanish-speakers can also watch the 2024 NWSL season opener on ESPN Deportes.
Additional viewing options for fans in the USA also include Amazon Prime Video and ion.

Top games to watch on matchday one in the NWSL
Neither the San Diego Wave or NY/NJ Gotham will be taking part in the games happening this weekend as both teams will be given a bit of rest after being involved in the curtain-raiser on Friday, March 15th.

Kansas City vs Portland Thorns: Not only is the official season opener for the 2024 NWSL season, but it is a match set to make history, as it will be played at Kansas City's CPKC Stadium, which is the first stadium built solely for a women's professional sports team in the USA. It will also be Vlatko Andonovski's first game in charge after resigning from the USWNT following the team's shocking early exit at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.

Utah Royals vs Chicago Red Stars: The Utah Royals are one of two new faces on the NWSL season this season, albeit they are no strangers to the league. They first played in the NWSL from 2018 to 2020, before folding and then being transformed into Kansas City Current. Now, the Royals are back after being revived in 2023 to return for a sophomore spell in the NWSL, and will kick things off against the Chicago Red Stars, who finished last in the table last term and will be looking for better fortunes this time around.

Angel City vs Bay FC: Bay FC are the second of two new faces participating in the upcoming NWSL season. It's set to be an all-California derby as the new team travel to face Angel City.
