Tuchel reveals whether Mbappe will be fit for PSG's UCL quarter-final clash vs Atalanta

The Frenchman picked up a worrisome ankle injury last month, with many fans wondering whether he will be fit for Wednesday's game.

The UEFA Champions League will be entering the quarter-final stage today on Wednesday, June 12. The game that will kick off the last-eight in everyone's favorite European club competition is Atalanta vs PSG. However, a lot of the focus is on the fitness of one player as opposed to the game itself.

That man is none other than Kylian Mbappe, which explains everything. The Frenchman is the main man of a squad that boasts a plethora of world-class players, hence why fans are fretting over his availability. It all began back in late July – the 24th, to be exact – when the World Cup winner picked up a nasty-looking ankle injury during the Coupe de France final victory over St-Etienne.

Speaking ahead of the quarter-final tie, Thomas Tuchel offered an update on his influential attacker. While the Parisiens boss did not offer a concrete yes-or-no as to whether the 21-year-old will start, the gaffer has all but confirmed he will play in Wednesday's game, be it from kick-off or off the bench.

"If he has a good training session today and nothing extraordinary happens, he will be with the team tomorrow," Tuchel told his pre-match press conference (as per Goal).

"We are very happy that he is with the group and that we can have the possibility of finishing the match with him."

Tuchel also stressed the importance of having Mbappe to get the best out of Neymar, who is another influential figure for PSG's attack. The coach added:

"We are very happy that Kylian is also with the group and that we can have the possibility to finish the match with him [Neymar], because the two like to play together. Neymar is decisive on the big matches and I am convinced that he can be the key man for us. He has the necessary quality for this kind of situation."

It will be interesting to see how the Ligue 1 champions fare against Atalanta with or without their top scorer. Given that the Champions League will be played in a single-leg format from now until the end of the season, we could witness an upset despite Mbappe and Co. being the heavy favorites.
