Jamie Vardy admits that he has faced a backlash for his alleged role in the sacking of Claudio Ranieri. Although the player continues to deny having any part, the rumors have led to nasty threats.
The Italian boss was popular, and thus the decision to fire him late last month was met with an uproar from pundits and fellow managers. In the aftermath of the Tinkerman’s exit, reports emerged that senior players were accomplices.
The Foxes miraculous upturn in form has done little to douse those claims, but the English forward continues to plead his innocence. Vardy also opened up about the death threats he has received due to those accusations.
“The story is out there, then people pick it up and jump on it and you’re getting death threats about your family, kids, everything,” Jamie said (as per the Guardian).
“I try to get on with it but when people are trying to cut your missus up while she’s driving along with the kids in the back of the car it’s not the best. It’s happened plenty of times. It is terrifying.”
The Leicester ace revealed that those threats came via social media and on the streets. The 30-year-old insists that no player had a rift with Ranieri, with issues with the former boss being dealt “man to man”.
“Apparently the meeting that got him sacked I read one story that said it was straight after the Sevilla game. Absolute shambles. It said I was personally involved in a meeting when I was actually sat in anti-doping for three hours. The stories were quite hurtful. A lot of false accusations were being thrown out there and there’s nothing us, as players, could do about it.”
Vardy could be in action this week, as his national side will take on Germany in a friendly.
