After confirming two deals on Thursday in the form of Dani Ceballos and William Saliba, Arsenal look set to complete another exciting piece of business. This is because according to the latest rumors, the Gunners are set to land Lille star Nicolas Pepe.
It's no secret that the north London giants are in search of a winger. Despite having shown interest in the Ivorian, it was heavily believed that Arsenal had been priced out of a move for the 2018/19 Ligue 1 breakthrough star.
The likes of Liverpool, Napoli, and Inter Milan are three other European giants that have been chasing Pepe, but as reported by BBC Sport, Arsenal have reached an agreement with Lille over his transfer.
The Europa League runners-up will pay $89M for the 24-year-old, which would make him there most expensive signing ever, surpassing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Personal terms have not been agreed with the player but the club is confident of wrapping that up within the next 48 hours.
Arsenal weren't the only ones to make a worthy bid for Pepe. Napoli also met the club's asking price, but the winger's representative turned down a move to the San Paolo Stadium.
Should Emery's side complete this deal, he will be a welcomed addition to the team. Despite boasting deadly goal scorers in the form of Aubameyang and Lacazette, the Gunners were short on a winger who could offer them pace and an eye for goal.
Pepe ticks all of those boxes, having scored a whopping 23 goals in 41 games last season for his French employers. To put those numbers into perspective, only Kylian Mbappe found the back of the net more often than the Ivorian.
