The Reds have their sight set on acquiring the service of the Spurs playmaker.

Manchester United is said to be keen on recruiting wantaway Tottenham Hotspur star Christian Eriksen. The Red Devils aim to add to Danish midfielder to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's new project with the player yet to sort out his future despite revealing his intentions to begin a new adventure elsewhere.

Currently 27, Eriksen is reportedly adamant to extend his stay at Spurs with just a year remaining on his current contract. The playmaker joined the London outfit from Ajax for a fee of £11 million and has become an indispensable member of the side, amassing 66 goals and 54 assists in 277 appearances.

At the moment, Manchester United is monitoring Erikesen's situation at Tottenham with Solskjaer's team seeking to bolster its attacking areas ahead of the new season. According to Mail Online, the Red Devils have asked their Premier League rivals to keep them in the loop should they consider the idea of parting ways with the midfielder.

Interest from Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona in the Denmark international has dropped in recent months with all the clubs spending huge sums to improve other key areas in their teams. With Manchester United apparently leading the race, the 27-year-old playmaker is expected to cost not less than £70 million and should be free to move once Spurs signs Giovani Lo Celso's from Real Betis.

Just a little over a week ago Mauricio Pochettino hinted at Christian Eriksen potentially leaving.

"I hope he will [stay]," Pochettino told reporters while attending the British Grand Prix.

"I think he is a great player, Christian. One of the biggest talents in football.

"After five years working with him, I am sure in the way that he plays, and I hope so yes.

"But you know, there is a lot of interest. I hope yes, but I don't know what is going to happen with that."
