The last meeting between Canada and Honduras resulted in the hosts on Friday getting mauled by a 8-1 score line, a defeat they will be looking to avenge when they face Honduras on Friday. QPR winger Junior Hoilett is poised to make his much anticipated competitive debut for Canada and much is expected from the 25 year old.
Hoilett made his debut for Canada taking part in a 1-1 draw against Ghana in a friendly last week. The QPR winger had in the past expressed his desire to play for England and was also eligible to play for Jamaica. He has chosen to play for Canada now and is hopeful he can guide his side to the World Cup.
"I just thought the timing was right, now with this new World Cup campaign with a chance to play for the nation," Hoilett said.
"The timing was good to get involved with this World Cup campaign and push for Russia.
"I've just got to go and play my game, I don't think I'm anybody's savior. We have a good squad here and everybody has the right goal to play for each other."
Honduras' 8-1 humbling of Canada did allow them to qualify for the World Cup but they were unable to make any impact having failed to muster a single point in the competition. They will however be more confident under head coach Jorge Luis Pinto who led Costa Rica to the Quarter Final in the World Cup held at Brazil last year.
Honduras will be without key players including the likes of Carlo Costly, Carlos Pavon or Andy Najar. Canada on the other hand will be without Andre Hainault and Lucas Cavallini however Julian de Guzman is poised to feature.
Costa Rica will be hoping to kick start their qualification campaign on a strong note after an impressive showing in the World Cup 2014. They will be keen to build upon their 1-0 win over USA last month courtesy of a solitary goal from Arsenal forward Joel Campbell.
Haiti have been on a good run themselves having won four of their last five matches in all competitions.
