Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has stated that Torres would be great for Chelsea but Liverpool have moved on from him.
Fernando Torres made a disappointing bow for his new club as Chelsea succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge. Torres started the game and had one clear opportunity but it was his former teammate Meireles who eventually decided the match.

Meireles scored from close range to give Liverpool the victory, minutes after Fernando Torres was substituted with Salomon Kalou. This victory pushed Liverpool up to sixth place in the Premier League standings.

"Good players come and go," Carragher told Sky Sports. "We've played against plenty of players (who have left)... we used to play against Robbie Fowler when he went to Leeds... it's not easy. You know the quality.

"Fernando is one of the best strikers in the world and I'm sure he'll prove that for Chelsea but he's not with us now. We've got to focus on our own team, do our own jobs and that's what we did.''

Even Kenny Daglish insisted that the Torres saga did not influence his players during the match. Only three points mattered to him and his players.

"The players approached it professionally,'' he said.”I don't think (Torres' presence) was any incentive. The incentive for us was to get three points and we did. Whatever someone else wants to do with their life is up to them.

"I came here to win three points and it would have made no difference if Carlo Ancelotti was playing up front, I'd still want the three points. The personnel of the opposition are not important to me.

"To be honest, he had one shot on target and Jamie Carragher made one great block tackle on him, but I'm not here to talk about other people's players, I'm here to talk about my own players.''

Liverpool continued the rebuilding process under Kenny Daglish and have now kept a clean sheet in their last four matches. Anfield faithfuls are optimistic that if this run continues, a Champions League spot may not be too far away.
