One of the biggest games this weekend will be Manchester United vs. Arsenal, as the Gunners prepare for a tricky trip to Old Trafford. Both sides will be without key players on Saturday, but an exciting affair is expected nonetheless.
Aaron Ramsey has added further fuel to an already heated prospect by touching on the issue of why he snubbed the Red Devils for the north London outfit. The Welshman was highly sought after by both clubs, but turned down Sir Alex Ferguson in favor of Wenger.
The then 17-year-old sealed his Emirates Stadium switch in 2008 after the Gunners snatched him from Man United in the last minute. So close were the 20-time Premier League champions to signing Ramsey that they even announced on their official website that a deal had been reached.
Aaron has now opened up about the reasoning behind his decision, claiming Le Prof wanted him more. The British midfielder highlighted one move done by the Frenchman that helped win him over: flying to meet Wenger on the Arsenal boss’ private jet.
"I went up there to see the facilities and I went to see Arsene Wenger," Ramsey told Sky Sports.
"He did a lot to try and get me to this club. As a 17-year-old, flying out on a private jet to his hotel [in Switzerland for Euro 2008] was surreal but I think I made the right decision.
"I just felt a bit more wanted by Arsenal and by the boss."
Since joining Arsenal from Cardiff, Aaron has endured nothing but turbulence. Early promising signs were cut short by a horrific leg break; a hero’s return was followed by frustrating seasons; and an amazing 2013/14 campaign preceded injury spells after injury spells.
