2010 World Cup host nation South Africa will play the penultimate friendly match of their warm-up preparations ahead of the tournament which they’ll kick start with a game against Mexico on June 11. Bafana Bafana will come up against Guatemala at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

But with as much as four draws out of the eight games they’ve played, doubts over the team’s potential remain among Bafana Bafana fans. Tonight, Carlos Alberto Parreira’s side will have to use their friendly match against Guatemala as an opportunity to draw a definite line between anxiety and confidence ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The South Africans successfully saw out Thailand 4-0 on May 16 and Colombia 2-1 on May 27 to make it two wins out three this month. Guatemala have played only once this year. That was earlier in March when they defeated El Salvador 2-1.

 

This result saw them end an awful record of twelve losses and four draws witnessed in their last eighteen friendly matches which were played over the past four years. South Africa will have to destroy minnows Guatemala to destroy the public’s doubts over the team’s chances during the 2010 World Cup
