Man United boss makes decision on No.1 goalkeeper if De Gea leaves

Manchester United has been linked to many transfers in, but this article will deal with one player that may be set to leave the club.

Goalkeeper David De Gea has repeatedly refused to sign a contract extension to his current deal with the club, which is set to end with the 2019-20 season. Even if he has been crucial to some of the club's recent accomplishments, he has also been harshly criticized by his costly mistakes, which ended the Red Devils' chances of finishing among the top four teams in the recently concluded Premier League campaign.

With that in mind, and considering that the Spaniard is asking a wage increase that could take his income over $440m a week, the notion of watching De Gea leave has crossed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's mind. If that was the case, Manchester United will not pursue the signing of another shot-stopper and would choose to promote Sergio Romero as the team's No.1 goalkeeper, according to a report by the Daily Mail.

This decision by the Norwegian boss will allow Manchester United to focus on other areas of the pitch, where he thinks the club really needs to sign players. Romero has played 44 games for the Red Devils since he joined them in 2015.

Romero was also in charge of guarding their net during the early stages of the 2015-16 season, when De Gea was negotiating his transfer to Real Madrid. Eventually, the deal wouldn't take place due to a malfunction in a fax machine. If De Gea ends up leaving, the Argentine goalie could have his big break once again.
