Arsenal’s inactivity in the current transfer window has angered the majority of fans, but the Gunners might have just received the breakthrough they have been hoping for in the market. According to reports out of France (as per the Sun), the north London outfit’s Thomas Lemar chase is back on.
Arsene Wenger’s interest in the Monaco ace is no secret. After playing an important role in their Ligue 1 success last season, the 21-year-old landed himself on Le Prof’s radar. His speed, eye for goal, vision, and young age ticks every box on the Arsenal boss’ list.
However, Lemar’s employers appeared unwilling to do business. After seeing Bernardo Silva, Tiémoué Bakayoko, and Benjamin Mendy all leave over the summer, Leonardo Jardim could be forgiven for wanting to retain his remaining players from their title-winning season.
Kylian Mbappe is now likely to leave the club after being sent home over a recent row with a team-mate during training. Interest in Lemar and Fabinho is also increasing and Monaco and are now reportedly ready to listen to offers.
The Gunners will face competition, however, as Man United are also interested in the French winger. Monaco’s asking fee could also be decisive, as Arsenal could find themselves priced out of a move.
Selling the many fringe players at the Emirates will raise funds and downsize Wenger’s squad after admitting that it’s big and thus unmanageable. Only time will tell if Arsenal’s move for Lemar goes through.
