Andrea Pirlo could kick-start his managerial career at Chelsea, according to the club's former midfielder.

New York City FC midfielder Andrea Pirlo could get a managerial role at Chelsea next season, according to former Blues midfielder Ray Wilkins. Pirlo was pictured at the Stamford Bridge last December alongside captain John Terry, midfielder Cesc Fabregas and goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

Conte has previously worked with Pirlo at the national team level with Italy and in the Serie A at Juventus, where they won three league titles between 2011 and 2014.

In an interview with TalkSport, Wilkins said:

''I know for a fact he (Pirlo) has been around Stamford Bridge on a number of occasions this year.

''He's the one that Antonio Conte would like. He managed him at Juventus until he was 34.

''He is the one he will want to come in (to replace Holland).''

It is understood that Conte wants Pirlo to replace Chelsea assistant manager Steve Holland. The 46-year-old was recently appointed the assistant manager to Gareth Southgate, the England NT boss.

Meanwhile, Chelsea play Manchester City later today in the Premier League. The Citizens will be hoping to reduce the Blues' lead at the top of the table as the league approaches its sunset days.
