The Argentinean striker and his father are facing a 21-month sentence, with their appeal being heard on April 20.

The Spanish Judicial System has agreed to make its final ruling on Lionel Messi's tax fraud case during a crucial week for Los Blaugranas. Spanish tax authorities decided to have the hearing on April 20, three days prior to the clash between Real Madrid and Barcelona, which will surely infuriate some of the Catalans supporters.

The timing of this hearing couldn't come at a worst time for Barceloma, with the team trying to keep its superstar focused on what goes on inside the pitch. The game against Los Blancos could be key for their title hopes, as Los Blaugranas sit two points behind Real Madrid in La Liga's title race.

Messi and his father Jorge were found guilty of tax evasion on July 6.

The hearing, which will be held behind closed doors, will not require Messi's presence in the court house, and it is yet unclear at this moment of the final ruling will be announced on that day or if it will be scheduled for a further date.
