UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin recently raised concerns regarding Britain’s exit from the UK – also known as Brexit. He fears that it could result in some huge players – namely Barca duo Lionel Messi and Neymar – being denied entry into the UK.
Ceferin brought up a recent case involving Serge Aurier of PSG. He was denied entry for his team’s trip to Arsenal in the Champions League group stage due to an ongoing assault case involving the Ivorian.
With Leo and his Brazilian buddy both involved in tax evasion cases, the UEFA boss fears that they could face the same fate for the upcoming Champions League final in Cardiff. This would be a huge blow for the Blaugrana if they were to make the ultimate showdown.
The UK government have now responded to those claims. A spokesperson discussed Ceferin’s fears, blasting them as “nonsense”. He said (as per Marca): "The British government already has powers to prevent anyone from entering the country if they have a previous conviction, whether or not they are a European citizen.
"Both Neymar and Messi have entered the UK recently and there is no reason to suggest that they would be disallowed entry in the future."
Nonetheless, United Kingdom find themselves in a disadvantage in regards to hosting rights. Britain were tipped as candidates for Euro 2028 or the 2030 World Cup, but their exit from the European Union could hamper their chances, as hinted by Ceferin.
