Could this be one of the shortest signings in the history of football?

Spanish La Liga giants terminated the contract of Sergi Guardiola, just hours after securing his signature. Guardiola, 24, had been signed by the Catalans on Monday morning and unveiled in the afternoon for the Barca B side. However, by evening, his contract was terminated due to what the club described as ‘’offensive tweets.’’

It was discovered that the youngster had tweeted ''Hala Madrid’’ among other ''offensive'' tweets back in 2013, which is considered disrespectful to the Barcelona fraternity, as it is a declaration of support for their bitter rivals Real Madrid.

Speaking to Spanish radio station Cope, Guardiola explained:

“I know I made a mistake. I apologise to Catalonia and Barcelona. I understand the decision, I’d do the same.''

“I want to make clear I didn’t write those tweets. A friend took my phone and did it. It’s a misunderstanding. The tweets are from 2013, a joke from a friend, I didn’t even know the tweets existed.''

“Barcelona have treated me very well. I understand their decision. Now I’m going home, we’ll see what happens.”
