Arsenal is motivated by getting their first Champions League win in the season against Bayern Munich.

In the camp managed by Arsene Wenger the morale is almost sky-high after their big win against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. They have a chance to round up a memorable week when they host Everton at Emirates Stadium. Arsenal is currently in second place and the visitors are down in ninth after nine games.

The bad news for the Gunners is that Aaron Ramsey suffered an injury in the UCL game and will be out for three weeks starting this weekend. Jack Wilshere, Tomas Rosicky and Danny Welbeck are the other three names on Arsenal's injury list, but they are not expected to return until 2016.

For Wenger, it is important that outsiders learn that what Arsenal has achieved is not a fluke. The team wants to remain in contention for the EPL title. Right now, they are only two points behind Manchester City and tied with Manchester United.

"You gain credibility through consistency and when people think this could be a game where we could slip a bit and you respond in a positive way," Wenger mentioned.

Alexis Sanchez is gradually becoming the striker Wenger and Arsenal fans want this season. The Chilean star has scored six goals out of the 16 that have been scored by Arsenal. Mesut Ozil is the leader in assists with six, way ahead of Theo Walcott and Santi Cazorla who only have two.

On the other side, Everton wants to go into the Emirates Stadium without any fear. They want to shock the home side and climb up the ladder of the EPL whil the distances between the teams are not so big. A win for them could launch them up to sixth place, based on a combination of results.

They have not won any of their last two games, which included a 0-3 loss against Manchester United at their own home. Right at the beginning of the season, in week two, they were able to beat Chelsea 3-1 and make a huge statement on what they are capable of this season.

Everton's manager, Roberto Martinez knows that his team suffered a huge blow against the Red Devils. At the same time, he knows his team can stand up and fight before its too late. He feels that Everton is in a good position almost one-fourth of the way through the season.

"It was a one-off... the character and resilience you need to be a winning team, we have that in the squad... it is part of our DNA and will never leave us," Martinez said.

There are not that many rivalries that have lasted so long as this one. One of the first documented games between both sides happened in 1905. That time Everton won 1-0. Since then, Arsenal has won 94 times, tied 42 and lost 55.
