The center back has played 661 games for the Blues after joining them back in 1995. His new contract will end in June 2016

Chelsea's captain John Terry has signed a contract extension with the Blues. The former England captain and the club revealed today the one-year extension to the player's contract, extending his stint with Stamford Bridge's side until the end of the 2015-2016 season.

Visibly moved, the 34-year old center back thanked the team and his fans for all the support they have given him since he played his first game with the Blues, back in 1998.

"After adding another major trophy to my collection this month I hope myself, the players and manager can continue to bring success to our club. Playing for this great club makes me so proud. And as always I would like to thank the fans who have continually supported me," Terry stated.

After the team made the official announcement, coach José Mourinho spoke about the chance of having Terry back next season, praising the defender for playing that much games with great performances.

"This new contract is not to say “thank you very much”; it is because John continues to perform. He is a top defender. I am happy that he completely deserves this new contract after a season where he has already played 40 matches," the Portuguese coach commented.

Terry has been voted the PFA Player of the Year in 2005 and has appeared in five consecutive FIFPro World XI teams. He has won the Chelsea Player of the Year award twice, among the many trophies won with the Blues.
