The Borussia Dortmund striker has set a new record in Germany...but not for the right reasons.

Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus' Christmas might not be so merry this year.

The German star was hit with an eye-watering £427,000 fine--the largest ever in his native country.

The reason? A whole laundry list of driving offenses, including at least five speeding violations dating back to 2011. And to make matters worse, the 25-year-old has been driving illegally for the past three years.

As per German publication Bild, the much-coveted attacker has admitted his wrongdoing, yet still has not offered a full explanation for his head-scratching behaviour.

"I decided back then to take that road but the reasons I did it are something I cannot really understand today," die Schwarzgelben ace was quoted as telling the tabloid.

Not surprisingly, he issued a mea culpa, stating, "Today I know that I was too naive and that it was stupid. I have learned my lesson and this will not happen again."

After unfortunately missing out on die Mannschaft's World Cup triumph due to injury, Reus is currently again on the treatment table as his side struggles to stay afloat in the Bundesliga.

His future at the Westfalenstadion is constantly the subject of speculation as it was revealed that £19.8 million would all be it takes to prise him away from the 2013 Champions League finalists.

Meanwhile, Dortmund has yet to release an official statement concerning Reus' latest legal and financial woes.
