Ahead of Arsenal's match against a Manchester United side in transition, we take a look at seven stats involving Wenger and Van Gaal.

Management in Premier League

The experienced Frenchman obviously has served much longer than his counterpart. He has served for eighteen years at Arsenal FC, whereas Louis Van Gaal is only approaching the midway point of his first ever season in the English Premier League.

Trophy Count

While Arsene Wenger is often ridiculed for Arsenal's lack of honors in the past decade (the FA cup trophy of 2014 did not end the ridicule), his trophy haul comes quite close to Louis Van Gaal's. Wenger has won 17 trophies as a manager while the Dutchman has won 20.  Wenger's trophies have come with three different clubs while Van Gaal's have come with four different clubs.

The Dreaded Champions League Count

One trophy missing from Wenger's cabinet is the UEFA Champions League. Wenger made it to one final, in 2006, losing out to Barcelona amid unfortunate circumstances. Louis Van Gaal has stood in the dugout for three UEFA Champions League finals, winning one with Ajax in 1995 and losing two (Ajax; 1995-96 and Bayern 2009-10).

Performance in 2014-15

Both managers have underperformed in the 2014-15 season; while not entirely to blame, they have to share the blame for terrible starts. This is the first time since 1998 that at least one of these two sides will not be present in the top five when playing each other.

The Winning Mentality

Arsene Wenger's longevity at Arsenal makes the next stat rather strange. Louis Van Gaal does not last for too long at most clubs due to his somewhat dictator-like approach. Yet the Dutchman seems to win more than Wenger. He has won 61.05 percent matches to date as a manager while Arsene Wenger has won just over half the matches he has presided over at his clubs (53.72%).

The Player Problem

Arsene Wenger, despite the various injuries incurred by his players, has not used as many players as Van Gaal has. The Dutchman, by match day 10, had used 31 players from his squad. This is more than any team has ever done in a single Premier League campaign! Michael Carrick had the honor of being the 31st man to be used by Louis Van Gaal.

Transfer Stats

While Arsene Wenger is almost always chided for not making enough transfers, he has indeed transferred in no less than five players into his first team this season. This tally is only two short of United's transfers. United has introduced six new players into the first team this season and added Radamel Falcao on loan.
