Both Spanish giants continue their toe-to-toe battle for the top spot in La Liga. Make sure you keep track of their games this weekend.

We are one week away from El Clásico, and the two most popular teams in Spain will want to get to that match in the best possible shape, which means they would need wins to battle for the top spot at the Bernabeu next week.

The first one of these teams to play this weekend will be Real Madrid, although their away game will not force them to take a large trip, as they will take the cross-town bus to face Getafe, the up and coming team coached by Quique Sánchez Flores.

Later during the weekend, Barcelona will host Celta in what should be considered as one of those trick games. The light blue team has always been a bit complicated for Los Culés, but their current squad does not seem capable enough of defending their ground against Lewandowski and Co.

This week will be critical for both teams if they want to get to El Clásico in high spirits. Which one of them will get to that clash on consecutive wins, considering both will play in the UEFA Champions League. Be sure to watch their first steps en route to the heavily publicized match with this guide.

Getafe vs Real Madrid

Los Merengues dropped points for the first time in the season last week "thanks" to a missed penalty by Karim Benzema. Now, the team will travel to Coliseum Alfonso Pérez trying to pick up the pieces and with the need of a second win in a row following their 2-1 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk. The main problem for them is that they will have to find a way to do so without two key players: Thibaut Courtois and Karim Benzema, who have been ruled out of the game due to different injuries.

On the other side of the pitch, the hosts make it to this match in need of a win, something that has been frequent for them when playing at home. The team led by coach Quique Sánchez Flores has won two in a row when playing at home, and their only loss in that condition during the current La Liga campaign took place more than a month ago, when Atlético Madrid claimed a three-nil win against them on August 15.

Barcelona vs Celta de Vigo

The Blaugrana side is now level with Real Madrid in points, and one more win here could give them the top spot all to themselves, but for that to happen, Los Blancos must lose their game on Saturday. Be that as it may, Los Culés will return to the competition they have thrived in this season after being defeated by Inter in the UEFA Champions League, a loss that raised several doubts about their chances of success this year. To make matters worse, coach Xavi Hernández will have to deal with five injury absences, with players such as Jules Koundé, Ronald Araújo, and Frenkie de Jong included in that list.

The away side makes it to Camp Nou with only one win in their last three games, and to make matters even more complicated, their recent trips to Catalunya have been quite disappointing, as the club from Vigo has lost four out of the last six. In fact, their last visit to Camp Nou concluded in a three-one loss for the team coached by Eduardo Coudet.
