The Spanish international was perhaps fortunate to escape with a yellow after striking the Croatian striker.

As is the case with any big clash between major rivals, fans can always expect the match to be a hotly-contested affair.

Especially if both teams come from the same city, in which the game is best described as a derby, and that is exactly what yesterday's Spanish Super Cup between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid was.

The matched finished as a 1-1 draw and was full of fouls flying in left and right from both sides. And not surprisngly, given his numerous card accumulation, defender Sergio Ramos was involved in a bit of a spat with Atleti's new striker, Mario Mandzukic.

The tall Croatian himself is no stranger to being cautioned and the two players mixed it up a bit during  during last season's Champions League match between Real Madrid and Mandzukic's former team, Bayern Munich. However, in this latest clash, Ramos was  quite fortunate to only escape with a yellow after this incident.

After going up for a ball, Mandzukic appears to use Ramos as his own personal cushion, much to the annoyance of the Spaniard who does this:

Certainly that little jab would be fine were the two men mixing it up in the boxing ring, but not so much on the pitch?
