The German wingman was elected by fans around the world. Over three million votes were cast to elect Borussia Dortmund's star.

Marco Reus will join a select group of footballers this summer, when he graces the cover of the FIFA 17 video game.

The German player beat James Rodriguez, Anthony Martial and Eden Hazard to become the image of the popular video game simulation. Over three million fans were able to cast their vote in the developer's website.

Players such as Lionel Messi, Thierry Henry, Ronaldinho and Edgar Davids had graced the cover of the game in recent years, and Reus' appointment comes as no surprise.

"I'm honoured to join a very distinguished group of footballers to appear on the cover of FIFA. Most of all I am humbled that the fans have chosen me, and I will strive to make them proud with my performance on the pitch," Reus stated in a press release.

Here's how the cover is expected to look like.

Reus isn't the only German player to be featured on the cover of a video game. His compatriot Mario Götze graced the cover of the other football video game franchise, Pro Evolution Soccer, back in 2015.
