For the third match in a row, the Argentine striker sealed the three points for the Herons with a late goal amid their heated playoffs race with Columbus Crew.

Inter Miami are fighting tooth and nail to make the MLS Cup Playoffs, and the man leading this late charge is none other than Gonzalo Higuain, the unforgettable Argentine striker who was tearing it up in Europe not too long ago.

Once again, the South American striker came to the rescue for Phil Neville's side, grabbing a late winner to earn the Herons a crucial 1-0 victory over Toronto on Friday. His lovely effort came in the 86th minute, when the game was at risk of ending in a draw, with the 34-year-old burying a low-driven shot past Quentin Westberg and into the bottom left corner. Watch this moment in the video below.

In fact, this is the third game in a row in which Higuain has sealed his MLS side the three points with a late winner. In their previous outing, Inter Miami beat DC United 3-2, with the former Napoli and Real Madrid star's match-deciding goal coming in at 90+4. In the game before that, Neville's side overcame Columbus 2-1, with Higuain scoring in the 82nd minute to secure the victory.

Albeit by a slight margin, the Florida outfit now sit seventh in the Eastern Conference table and thus currently occupy the final playoffs slot. Columbus Crew, who are in eighth, are three points behind but boast a superior goal differential and are set to be in action this weekend, taking on the New York Red Bulls.

Despite this, Inter Miami, co-owned by English icon David Beckham, are in the driving seat to make it out of the regular season. The reason is simple: unlike in Europe where goal difference is used to separate two teams on equal points, the MLS gives the advantage to the team with the higher number of total wins.

Currently, Neville's side have triumphed 13 times to Columbus' nine victories, and the Herons have Higuain to thank after scoring 12 goals in his last 14 outings for his club. Only two fixtures stand in between Inter Miami and their first playoffs berth in a full MLS season: Orlando City SC on October 5 and CF Montreal on October 9. Win both games and Gonzalo will lead his team into the next round.
