League leaders Benfica will look to recover after suffering their first loss of the season as they travel to face struggling Vizela on matchday nine.

The Primeira Liga gets back underway after a temporary hiatus, and by the time this round is over, Portuguese football fans could see some interesting changes in the league standings.

Here's all you need to know ahead of matchday nine.

Primeira Liga standings heading into matchday nine

Primeira Liga games you won't want to miss on matchday nine

Vizela vs Benfica: After losing their first match in the Primeira Liga, Benfica did bounce back by picking up a narrow 2-1 win over Trofense in the Taca de Portugal. However, the Eagles were brought crashing back down to earth following a 4-0 loss to Bayern on matchday three of the Champions League, which, given the Bavarian titans' dominance over everyone in their group, wasn't exactly a shocking result. Now, it's back to the drawing board as they travel to face a Vizela side who've won just once all season and come into this tie having drawn their last five games.

Tondela vs Porto: On paper, this could be an opportunity for Porto to seize top spot. It's been a good week for the Dragons, who narrowly edged out AC Milan in their midweek Champions League tie to keep their hopes of potentially qualifying for the round of 16 intact. With four wins from their last five games, Porto do look like favorites against upcoming hosts Tondela, but the home side has seemingly turned a corner with back to back wins after losing three on the spin.

Sporting CP vs Moreirense: Another team who could potentially leap-frog Benfica into top spot is Sporting CP. They're been in good form, and like Porto, have yet to lose a match in the Primeira Liga. Moreirense, for their part, are hovering just above the drop zone after picking up just seven points from their first eight games.
