After winning the Treble last season, Bayern Munich will look to kick off the current campaign by winning the UEFA Super Cup at the expense of serial Europa League winners Sevilla.

Preview: Bayern Munich vs Sevilla

Fresh off winning a well-deserved Treble last season, Bayern Munich have showed no signs of slowing down. The Bavarian titans kicked off their Bundesliga season with a bang by crushing Schalke 8-0, showing that the short break away from football has not caused the players' skills to become less sharp. During the demolition, six different players scored, including debutant Leroy Sane, while Serge Gnabry grabbed himself his first hat-trick of the season.

Having announced their intent to the rest of their Bundesliga rivals, die Roten will now turn their attention towards winning their first piece of silverware of this season. As is the custom, the winners of the Champions League and the Europa League lock horns in the UEFA Super Cup, and the upcoming opponents for Hansi Flick's men are none other than Spanish outfit Sevilla.

Los Rojiblancos defeated Inter 3-2 to earn their sixth Europa League title, making them serial winners in European club football's secondary competition. Since then, they have been in decent form, having won their last couple of friendlies prior to this match. Unlike Bayern, they have not yet commenced their domestic campaign, with their opening match postponed due to their participation in this match.

Bayern, of course, are looking to win their first Super Cup since 2013, when they beat Chelsea. This will be their fifth participation in this event, but interestingly, the German powerhouse don't have the best record, with their win over Chelsea being their only victory so far in four attempts. That being said, their mauling of Schalke makes it 22 straight wins across all comps for Flick's troops, and as such, they will naturally look to continue in that excellent vein as they face a team that they've never lost to so far.

Team news: Bayern Munich vs Sevilla

Bayern Munich: Unfortunately for the Bavarian titans, the man whose goal won them Champions League - Kingsley Coman - is out for this match due to fitness problems. Another major blow is the likely absence of young defender Alphonso Davies due to an unspecified issue. And finally, new acquisition Tanguy Kouassi is out with a thigh injury.

Sevilla: The Spanish side have no notable injuries ahead of this contest.
