Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo team up with donations to fight coronavirus

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are known worldwide as two of the brightest football stars, with the duo frequently facing each other during the awards' season. But this time, both stars "teamed up" to fight one of mankind's greatest foes: coronavirus.

Reports from Spain and Argentina have revealed the donations made by both superstars to fight this disease in each of their home countries and in Spain. Both donations will come in handy, even if their nature is a bit different.

According to Diario As, Messi decided to donate over one million dollars to two hospitals, one in Barcelona and and the other one in Argentina. The donation will surely be most appreciated in Catalunya, a region where 282 people have died and over 8,000 more have been confirmed to have contracted the disease. Meanwhile, Argentinean authorities have confirmed six deaths and 306 confirmed coronavirus cases.

Elsewhere, Cristiano Ronaldo and his agent Jorge Mendes decided to give a hand to two different hospitals in Portugal. The player and his agent donated all the equipment needed to put up a couple of intensive care units at Santa María de Lisboa hospital. Each intensive care unit includes 10 beds, breathing devices and heart monitors.

But their good deed did not stop there, as the Portuguese duo donated fifteen intensive care beds and state-of-the-art technology to fight the virus to San Antonio Hospital in Porto.

The hospital located in Porto thanked CR7 and Mendes via a press release, not before stating that the intensive care units donated by the football icon and his agent will be named after them.

"We want to thank Ronaldo and Mendes for their useful initiative, especially at a time in which our country needs everyone to contribute," the press release stated.

Portuguese authorities have confirmed over 2,300 coronavirus cases, with 30 deaths since the start of the outbreak.
