The crucial tie will most likely have a direct influence in who wins the title in La Liga this season.

The battle between Barcelona and Real Madrid is set to take place this weekend, and even though Blaugrana fans might think that La Liga's choice of referee may not do them any favors, stats show that the league's decision has been more fruitful for the Catalan club.

Earlier today, the Spanish league revealed the names of the referees that will be working in the upcoming weekend's games. The man in charge of seeing the rules being followed will be none other than Mateu Lahoz, who will be refereeing his fifth Clásico ever, with this being his second La Liga appearance.

Added to that, Lahoz has officiated 30 games featuring each of these teams in his professional career. Real Madrid's record with Lahoz on the pitch has seen Los Blancos claiming 21 wins, while there have been three games ending in a draw. Los Blancos have also lost six matches when Lahoz has been the ref. In those games, the ref has awarded seven penalties to Los Blancos, while their rivals have never been handed one with this ref in the game.

The 42-year-old ref made his debut in La Liga back in 2008.

Speaking about Barcelona, their record is even better with Lahoz on the pitch. Barcelona's record shows 23 wins, six draws and only one loss when Lahoz is refereeing. He has sent off five Blaugrana players in those 30 games, while their rivals have seen the red card 9 times. Speaking about penalties, Barcelona has been awarded six penalties when Lahoz is on the pitch, while their rivals have only earned one.

Now, let's turn our attention to those Clásicos with Lahoz on the pitch. Real Madrid has won two Clásicos when Lahoz has been refereeing, one of them in the 2012 Spanish Super Cup and one in the 2014 Copa del Rey final. Lahoz was also in charge during the 2014-15 El Clásico that ended in a 2-1 win for Los Culés (which eventually gave them the title). Last, but not least, he refereed in the first leg of the 2018-19 Copa del Rey semis, which ended in a one-all draw.

So, regardless of what Barcelona fans think, their record is better than Real Madrid's when Lahoz has been in charge of blowing the whistle. Which side will have more complaints about his work when the clash concludes this Sunday?
