The first of their two league encounters was initially scheduled for October 26 but that game has now been postponed due to political instability.

It hasn’t been long since the postponement of El Clasico was confirmed, but Barcelona and Real Madrid have already agreed on a new date for the first of their two league encounters.

The RFEF made the decision to push back the always-entertaining clash between Spain’s two biggest clubs due to political instability in the Catalan region. With protests breaking out over the decision to jail key pro-independence figures, security concerns also emerged.t

The game, initially scheduled for October 26, has thus been pushed back, with a showdown in December being all but destined. Both clubs have now agreed on a date, with the Blaugrana suggesting December 18 and Los Blancos giving this proposal the green light.

“After the resolution of the Competition Committee of the Spanish Football Federation to postpone the game that was to be played on Saturday October 26 between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid CF, and which establishes that the clubs agree on a new date for the event, Real Madrid announces that the date proposed by both clubs is December 18,” a statement from Real Madrid read.

However, it is now up to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF)'s Competition Committee to give a final verdict. Whether they will greenlight this schedule remains unknown. The fact that this date falls on a Wednesday doesn’t help as a match of this magnitude is better suited to the weekend.
