Inter Milan have received a huge blow in their Serie A campaign. The Italian giants will be without key attacker Alexis Sanchez for a substantial time after picking up an injury while on international duty.
The 30-year-old picked up a knock to the ankle during Chile’s clash with Colombia in what was a costly friendly. The South American side later confirmed that the attacker, on loan from Man United, will be out for a few months.
The former Arsenal man suffered an injury to the tendons in his left ankle late. As a result, he is tipped to miss two to three months of action if he undergoes surgery, according to Chile manager Reinaldo Rueda.
“We won't have Sanchez for this game," the coach said, as per the Daily Mail.
“Should he undergo surgery with Inter, for two or three more months [he will be out].
“It's a shame, he was starting to play with his club, he scored two goals and played in the Champions League.
“We have to wait, the next few hours will be crucial as we will know what decision Inter will make. For us he is Alexis Sanchez, for Inter he is one of their players.”
This is unfortunate for his Italian employers as they attempt to end Juventus’ reign of dominance. The Chilean has begun life in Italy well but missed their last league game due to suspension.
That game came against Cristiano and Co, with Conte’s side losing their perfect start to the campaign in a 2-1 defeat. As a result, Nerazzurri now trail Conte’s crew by a single point.
