The Spanish shot-stopper will be committing his long-term future to Manchester United in the coming weeks.

Thibaut Courtois' switch from Chelsea to Real Madrid all but confirmed the end Los Blancos' pursuit of Manchester United's David De Gea. The 27-year-old Spanish goalkeeper, for some time in recent years, was linked with a move to the European champions and almost joined them in 2016.

Manchester United, having held onto the De Gea who has arguably been the star of the side in the last four seasons, is set to reward him with a bumper new deal. According to UK tabloid Mirror, the ex-Atletico Madrid goalie will reportedly be paid £200,000-a- week in his new contract.

Manager of the Old Trafford outfit, Jose Mourinho, ahead of his team's Premier League clash with Brighton on Sunday, commended his shot-stopper's professionalism despite the recurrent speculations which linked him to Real Madrid.

"David is a Manchester United player, he will sign a new contract as soon as possible, he likes it here. "We love him, we want him to stay. He wants to stay.

"I think it was a collective situation involving the player, the agent and Manchester United. The agent didn't create a war to try to achieve his objectives.

"He respected the club. He respected the player. The player was always keen to stay and happy to stay. "The club understood how important he was and was always trying to give him the conditions to make him happy, so credit to all three."

Quizzed on the subject of David De Gea's worth Mourinho said: "Zero. Because when a player is not on the market, his value is zero.

"Is David the best in the world? My goalkeeper is always the best goalkeeper in the world. I said that to my goalkeeper when I was coaching Uniao Leiria, a small club in Portugal.

"My goalkeeper is always the best in the world, but you understand what I mean. I don't want to be called disrespectful or arrogant and say that Courtois is not good or Manuel Neuer is not good. There are so many."
