Kylian Mbappe's future took center stage during the recent summer transfer window. The Frenchman, who will be out of contract at the end of the current season, wanted to leave the French capital for Real Madrid and made no secret of this desire.
However, despite communicating this to the PSG board and informing them that he will not be signing a contract extension, the Ligue 1 giants refused to sell the 2018 World Cup winner. Real Madrid are said to have made two mega-money offers for the attacker in the final days of the transfer window – the exact figures are contentious – but were rejected.
As a result, many predict the former Monaco sensation to leave France for the Spanish capital for free in a few months' time. However, the player has just handed PSG a lifeline as Mbappe refused to rule out a Parc des Princes stay in a recent conversation with Amazon Prime.
The 22-year-old opened up about his failed transfer, admitting to being disappointed initially. However, he added that his decision for the upcoming summer window is not set in stone as he is already at one of the best clubs in the world.
"I don't know. Today I have to take the time. It is not easy. Either way, I'll be playing for a big club," Mbappe told Amazon Prime (as per the Daily Mail).
"At first I was disappointed [not to leave]. But well, I am not in the third division, I am in a club that wants to win the Champions League.
"I am Parisian, I have my family, I feel good, I have always said it. I just wanted to discover something else."
Kylian discussed an array of topics regarding the French top-flight leaders, including his partnership with Neymar and the recently-signed Lionel Messi. The arrival of the Argentine icon sparked a frenzy but the world-class trio are yet to light up the stage. The Frenchman openly admitted that they must work harder in order to perform at a level necessary for winning domestic and European titles.
"We're aware that we need to do more. When you have three players of that level, you can't hide from it.
"We need to do the things that keep us together as a collective. We each have to do our bit."
Pochettino's men will be in action on Tuesday as they will take to the field for their sixth and final group stage game in the UEFA Champions League. PSG, who are destined to finish second in their group, host Club Brugge with the aim of bouncing back from their recent 1-1 draw with Lens.
