The pair were not included in the matchday squad for Wednesday night's trip to Crystal Palace.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed the reason for David De Gea and Anthony Martial's omission from Wednesday night's trip to the Selhurst Park. The pair raised eyebrows with their absence with the Red Devils prepping themselves for Sunday's super clash with rivals Manchester City.

United set out their team against Palace with Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood leading the attack while Dean Henderson came in between the sticks for his second Premier League star of the season. In last weekend's trip to Chelsea, the English shotstopper was on the bench while De Gea secured a cleansheet with Anthony Martial only being handed a sustitute role in the 0-0 draw.

Ahead of Wednesday's meeting with Roy Hodgson's side, both the Martial and De Gea were amiss. According to Solskjaer, the Frenchman was not included in the squad list because of an injury he picked up in training while his side's first-choice goalkeeper was given the day off due to personal reasons. Speaking pregame, he said:"David, that's personal reasons.

"Anthony [Martial] got a knock in training on Monday, on his knee, so not ready for this. Hopefully ready for the weekend but we're not sure yet."

Manchester United ended up drawing in a second successive Premier League, with the meeting with Palace ending in another 0-0 scoreline. The Red Devils' Premier League title charge could be well over with the point deficit between them and leaders Manchester City now standing at 14.
