Five Barcelona players and two coaches reportedly tested positive for COVID-19

According to reports coming out of Catalonia, five Barcelona players tested positive for the coronavirus but the results were not made public. While several clubs have opted to keep the identity of those who have contracted the virus confidential, for understandable reasons, the Blaugrana are accused of keeping the positive results top secret.

This claim was made by Catalan radio RAC1 programme Tú Diràs (as per AS). They claim that not only did five players test positive, but also two members of the coaching staff. This allegation was not confirmed nor commented on by the club and La Liga, but other sources have echoed RAC1's report.

It should be noted that the report states that these results came after the squad was subjected to blood tests at the beginning of the pandemic. Those who contracted the virus were asymptomatic and have fortunately made full recoveries from COVID-19.

However, concerns arose when it came time to return back to training. The fear among members of the coaching staff was that those who had the virus would be more susceptible to injuries upon reporting for duty. Fortunately, that does not appear to be the case.

Action in the Spanish top-flight will resume on June 11 with the Seville derby between Sevilla and Real Betis, with Messi and Co. taking to the field on June 13. The reigning champions will resume their title defense with a Saturday trip to Mallorca before playing hosts to Leganes 72 hours later.
