Real Madrid has suffered yet another blow ahead of next Sunday's El Clasico with striker Rodrygo set to miss out as a result of a suspension. The 19-year-old forward will be serving a two-match ban after being sent off in Sunday's clash between Los Blancos'Castilla side and SS Reyes in the third tier of Spanish football.
Rodrygo, who has been sparingly utilized by Zidane in the first team in recent times, was handed a starting role in Raul's young side in the Matchday 26 fixture. In the 87th minute, the Brazilian teenager capped off a fine performance with a remarkable solo goal to give his side 2-0 lead with three minutes of regulation time left to play.
However, moments later, Rodrygo attracted a second yellow card for badgering the SS Reyes goalkeeper following his goal. Watch the incident below:
In essence, the sanction has ruled the young attacker out of contention for a spot in the Real Madrid squad that will feature in El Clasico despite reportedly getting assured of a place by Zidane on Friday. The latest injury to Eden Hazard means the French manager would have to other means to boost his attacking options with Rodrygo unavailable for the ultimate test to usurp Barca to the top spot. However, he should have the former Santos prodigy in his side when Manchester City comes to the Bernabeu on Wednesday.
Rodrygo has featured in 12 La Liga games this season where he has managed just two goals. In the Champions League, the 19-year-old has exceeded expectations as he has managed four goals in his first four appearances for Real Madrid.
