The never-ending debate to name the best footballer of this era will continue after these words by a former Juventus ace.

Fans around the world have often been divided into two groups: those who believe that Lionel Messi is the best player of all time, and one more group of those who believe that Cristiano Ronaldo is the best footballer to ever grace the face of the earth. Well, one former Juventus footballer does not agree, and he launched his "candidate" to be considered as the best of all time.

Speaking at the Liedholm awards in Italy, former Juve midfielder Claudio Marchisio snubbed the possibility of naming Messi or CR7 as the best out there, and he decided to heap praise on Andrés Iniesta, the man who should be considered as the best player in the world.

"People try to explain it to me and I don't understand it, how did Iniesta fail to win a Ballon D'Or? Iniesta has three brains: one in his left foot, one more in his right foot and the one in his head. Barcelona may have Messi, but to me, the best player in history is Andrés Iniesta," Marchisio said.

Marchisio and Iniesta fight for a ball in the 2015 UEFA Champions League final.

The former midfielder kept on with his praise towards Iniesta, who was key to Barcelona's golden era and led Spain to their only FIFA World Cup title with a crucial goal in the final.

"It's impressive to see how easy he can play and how anyone can learn to play football just by watching him. He was Barcelona's true lethal weapon," Marchisio added.

Iniesta is still playing football in the J-League, but his retirement could take place in the next couple of years, as the former Blaugrana ace has stated he would like to continue his path in the world of football as a coach.
