In our match analysis informing you how to watch Spain's clash with Malta, we compare team statistics and analyze their head-to-head record.

What is the form of Malta compared to Spain?

Malta's form isn't great, to say the least. After going the entire of 2018 without a single win, losing six and drawing four of the 10 games played in that calendar year, that atrocious run came to an end against Faroe Island. They beat their fellow minnows 2-1 in their UEFA Euro 2020 qualifier but Spain will be a different test.

As for La Furia Roja, while they enter this game on the back of a two-game winning streak, the 2010 World Cup champion has lost two of their last five games, both defeats coming in the UEFA Nations League against England and Croatia. However, those were the only times when Ramos and Co. failed to win since in the seven games that followed their Russia 2018 exit.

Malta vs Spain head-to-head record

This will be the seventh encounter between these two European nations. Unsurprisingly, the head-to-head record favors Spain. The 2012 European Championship have outscored the minnows by 28 goals to three, to make things worse for the home side.

Malta vs Spain team news

Luis Enrique's side needed a late penalty from Sergio Ramos to come away with all three points against Norway in their previous game despite dominating possession. While La Furia Roja came out of the clash unscathed but the manager could make changes to his lineup nonetheless.

Key talking point - will Spain hit top form before the international break ends?

In all honesty, while the 2-1 win over Norway meant all three points in their opening qualifier, the manner in which they won was not comfortable for Enrique's side. The European giant was saved by a late penalty, which Ramos slotted in via a Panenka, to avoid a disappointment.

In their last three games, they edged out Bosnia and Herzegovina 1-0 after losing back-to-back games against England and Croatia. While this doesn't mean the time to panic has arrived, Enrique will want his players firing at all cylinders before they return to their respective clubs.
