The player's wife, Wanda Nara, showed up to discuss her husband's contractual situation with Inter, but a surprise caller changed the tone of the show.

It has been quite a complicated week for Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi and his girlfriend/agent, Wanda Nara. First, the footballer was stripped from the captain's armband by Luciano Spalletti. Then, he opted to skip the trip to face Rapid Wien in the UEFA Europa League's round of 32. Nara was involved in an incident where some Inter fans threw rocks at her car, and to put a cherry on top, Nara burst out in tears during a TV interview.

The Argentine agent spoke on Canale 5's Tiki-Taka show about her partner's situation with Inter. The striker's contract with the nerazzurri ends in 2021, but there has been no agreement between both parties to extend the deal. After being accused of trying to get more money on behalf of her lover, Nara couldn't hold back her feelings and shared a few details on what Inter Milan means to them.

"He's proud of the Inter shirt, he never thought about money, everyone knows what he earns and if that was what he cared about he would have made different decisions," Nara stated in the TV show.

"Being captain was a source of pride for me, it wasn't easy after Zanetti and he did everything possible to honour the role. I never thought what has happened could happen, I'm always in touch with the club's bosses," the agent added while bursting into tears.

Then, Nara went on to admit that her husband wants to keep playing for the Milanese side, but their renewal will not come cheap.

"Our idea is to stay here, stay at Inter. But some decisions don't depend on us, we'll see. Right now we don't want a renewal," she stated.

Things took a dramatic turn when team exec Giuseppe Marotta called the show. The Italian exec admitted that Wanda's tears forced him to call the show, but he needed to clarify a few things to keep peace among all members of the nerazzurri family.

"We want to put an end to this controversy, and calm everyone down, first of all Wanda and Mauro. Taking the captaincy wasn't a punishment. If we're a family, sometimes the parents have to take tough decisions for the children to grow. I explained the decision personally to Mauro, I've seen Wanda crying and I'm sorry. What we did was for the good of Mauro, the club and the fans," Marotta said.

Last, but not least, Marotta admitted that a deal has already been reached to keep Icardi playing for the black-and-blue side, but now the ball is on Icardi's side.

"We have an agreement with Wanda. We'll present her with our renewal offer and we'll do it soon, no doubt about it. Then they can calmly decide if they accept it or not,"Marotta concluded.
