With the Egyptian superstar's current contract set to end in 2023, fans have been worrying whether he would leave in the summer or extend his deal.

Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah has publicly opened up about his contract situation at Anfield, sitting down with Sky for an insightful interview. While the Egyptian ace did not go into great details about his future, the attacker offered some promising words that will be music to the ears of the fans.

The former Roma ace is undoubtedly the best player in the Premier League right now, with many even suggesting that he is currently the best in the world, ahead of the likes of Karim Benzema and Robert Lewandowski. It's hard to argue against that claim, as he has led the Merseyside giants to a Premier League title and back-to-back UEFA Champions League finals, one of which they won.

However, next season will mark the beginning of the final year of his current contract, leaving Liverpool in a conundrum. With his deal expiring in the summer of 2023, the club will have to either secure an extension before the current campaign ends or explore cashing in on the 29-year-old this summer.

The FSG owners prefer to keep the Ballon d'Or contender at Anfield. However, the Egyptian is reportedly demanding a £400,000-per-week salary, which translates to just over half-a-million USD every seven days ($551,000, to be precise). This would break the club's wage structure, hence the dilemma in the contract negotiations.

However, in his interview with Sky, Salah offered optimism. The former Roma man openly admitted his desire to remain in Merseyside, even going as far as stressing his desire to end his career at Anfield. Nonetheless, Mohamed also admitted that there are elements of the renewal process that are out of his control, which is probably a hint at whether the higher-ups will accept his wage demands.

"If you ask me, I would love to stay until the last day of my football career, but I can't say much about that — it's not in my hands. It depends on what the club want," the attacker told Sky.

Given that the 29-year-old has scored 12 goals in 11 outings this season across all competitions, it's hard to argue against his reported wage demands. Since arriving at Anfield, the winger has netted a whopping 102 goals in the Premier League alone and has thus become the quickest player in the club's history to reach the 100-goal mark, achieving this feat in only 162 English top-flight appearances.

While his contract situation remains a huge issue for both player and club, both parties will be solely focused on their upcoming fixture. Klopp's men are set to take on Man United on Sunday in a highly-anticipated Old Trafford showdown, with Van Dijk and Co. keen on maintaining their unbeaten start to the campaign.
