UEFA Champion League: Borussia Dortmund vs Man City live on April 14, 2021

Borussia Dortmund vs Man City preview

Champions League football returns on Wednesday night at the Westfalenstadion satium in an all to play for quarter-final match-up between Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City. The first leg in England saw a dramatic late Phil Foden goal steal the show and give Pep Guardiola's men the edge going into the second leg. The result was not so gloomy for Dortmund as they got an all-important away goal to fall when they welcome the Premier League club.

Ahead of Wednesday's meeting, both teams boast an impressive record in the Champions League. Although Dortmund has won just two of their last seven games across all competitions, the black and yellow are on an impressive eight-game unbeaten run at home in the champions league.

However, Die BVB's charges will need to step up their efforts considering that their leading marksman Erling Haaland has gone six games without a goal. Prior to that, the Norwegian wonderkid had scored 33 goals in 34 appearances across all competitions. Safe for him though as he is yet to draw a blank at home in the champions league this season.

Edin Terzic faces quite a herculean task as some of his key men are set to miss tonight game. The likes of former Man City academy star Jadon Sancho will not compete in the game as he recovers from a thigh injury. Mats Hummels and captain Marco Reus are doubtful for tonight's game after being substituted off during the weekend's clash with Stuttgart while fellow teammates Alex Witsel, Dan-Axel Zagadou and Marcel Schmelzer are all set to miss the encounter.

For Manchester City, the trip to Borussia presents the perfect opportunity for them to move closer to the quadruple dream. The Citizens are currently placed first in the Premier League and are in great standing to secure the League Cup and the FA Cup. On Wednesday, they will approach the European cup game on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Leeds United during the weekend.

Before losing to Marcelo Bielsa's men, City had secured wins in their last six games across all competitions. Even more impressive, Pep Guardiola's men are yet to taste defeat in the Champions League. Up until the 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund, they had not conceded a single goal in the entirety of the of the campaign.

They will however need everyone in their ranks putting in the best show to ensure any form of upset. But the whole calvary will not be available, with the side set to miss the services of two key players. Argentine striker Sergio Aguero is doubtful after picking a fresh injury. Frenchman Aymeric Laporte is back in training after visiting the treatment room.
