The Blues are on the hunt for a left-back and are ready to look elsewhere after hitting a roadblock in their Chilwell pursuit.

Chelsea, after their promising but inconsistent first season under Frank Lampard, are keen to bolster their squad in the ongoing transfer window. One position the Blues look to strengthen is defense and they thus have their eyes on a highly-rated left-back, as per Sky Sports.

That man is none other than Ajax's Nicolas Tagliafico. The 27-year-old, who is capped 25 times for the Argentine national team, enjoyed another lovely campaign in the Eredivisie and could have won the title had the season not been declared null and void due to the coronavirus.

The defender contributed to 10 goals in 38 games in 2019/20, scoring five and assisting another five. While he is under contract at Ajax until 2022, the odds of him leaving the club are reasonable.

Chelsea are on the lookout for a left-back; this is no kept secret. The players they had heavily been linked with throughout the season was Ben Chilwell of Leicester and for his obvious reason – his knowledge of the league and remarkable campaign. Nonetheless, a difference in valuation between the Blues and the Foxes has seen these speculations cool down as of late.

Tagliafico could team up with former Ajax buddy Hakim Ziyech who made the switch from the Netherlands to Stamford Bridge not too long ago. However, Lampard's side aren't the only ones interested in the Argentine.

Barcelona have long been linked with the defender and fellow Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are said to have their eyes on the former Independiente man. Time will tell whether he will remain in the Eredivisie, join the Premier League, or opt for La Liga.
