The Reds could be set for a sensational reunion with their former star, according to reports.

The bad blood between Liverpool fans and Raheem Sterling could experience a sanctification with a new report suggesting that a return to Anfield could be on for the Manchester City attacker. The Reds are apparently considering a shock move for the 24-year-old when the transfer window opens this summer.

After leaving Merseyside under controversial circumstances, Raheem Sterling has gone on to become one of the best players in the Premier League, enjoying scores of success under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. Since completing the switch to Etihad in a £49 million deal back in 2015, the attacker has won two Premier League titles, two FA Cups and three EFL trophies.

Nevertheless, trips back to Anfield have always been met with a hostile reception from Liverpool fans who still remain irate because Sterling presumably ditched the club in favor of a mega-money move to City. Despite the shaky relationship between the player and the Reds' fan-base, he recently rehashed his affection for the club in a live Instagram Q&A with his followers.

When asked about the possibility of returning, he said: " To be honest with you I love Liverpool.

"Don't get it twisted, they are always in my heart.

"It's a team that done a lot for me growing up so…"

On Tuesday, French publication L'Equipe reported that the possibility of Sterling re-joining Jurgen Klopp's side cannot be overruled just yet as one of his representatives has left the door open. When quizzed about the chances of the player moving back to Anfield, he said: "Even if Raheem is attached to Manchester City, he hasn't forgotten Liverpool, because that's where he became who he is as a man and as a player.

"Of course, there was controversy surrounding his exit, but since then, time has run its course and everything is possible'."

Manchester City is expected to lose a host of its key players should their two-year Champions League ban for an alleged breach of Financial Fair Play rules be upheld. Sterling is rumored to be among the stars who could seek playing opportunities elsewhere and, should that be the case, Liverpool is expected to pounce with an offer.

Sterling could also fill the void left by Sadio Mane should Real Madrid come through on their rumored pursuit of the Senegalese forward.
