Real Madrid have suffered a huge blow in their fight to have starlet Rodrygo available for El Clasico after the Brazilian youngster was sent off during a Castilla game in the Segunda B.
The Brazilian represented the B side in their clash with SS Reyes, guiding them to a 2-0 victory. The teenager even scored his side’s second goal of the game; however, the youngster unfortunately decided to celebrate the strike in front of the opposing goalkeeper’s face after being confronted by him.
Rodrygo, who was already on a yellow, was sent off by the match official and is was subsequently hit with a two-match ban, thus ruling him out of El Clasico. Los Blancos issued a complaint over his red card, arguing that the opposition goalkeeper got in Rodrygo’s face and provoked the Brazilian but the suspension has been upheld, as revealed by Mundo Deportivo.
The Spanish giants can file an appeal before the Appeals Committee in 10 days but this is a huge blow nonetheless. Given the recent injury setback Eden Hazard suffered, Zidane could have benefited from having Rodrygo on at his disposal for the clash with Barcelona, with Real Madrid trailing their bitter rivals by two points.
The 19-year-old has impressed for his new employers in the Champions League mainly, scoring four times and is their top goal scorer in Europe alongside Benzema. Despite this fact, the South American was omitted from the squad for the upcoming Man City game despite being available for choice.
