Transfer: Real Madrid to make final push for wantaway Tottenham star

Real Madrid will make a last-ditch attempt to sign Tottenham Hotspur's Christian Eriksen with the end of the transfer window in Spain approaching. The Danish midfielder has been tipped to leave Spurs this summer after making clear his intention to seek a new experience elsewhere.

Eriksen joined the North London outfit from Ajax in 2013 and has developed into an integral member of the side since his arrival. At the moment, the 27-year-old midfielder has less than a year left on his contract and Mauricio Pochettino's team risks missing out on getting a hefty fee from his transfer next season having rebuffed all attempts to sign a contract extension.

With the transfer window in England closing, the ideal destination for Eriksen will be La Liga and apparently long-time admirer Real Madrid is reportedly readying an offer for the wantaway Spurs playmaker. According to the Sun, Los Blancos are holding on until the final hours of the transfer window to submit a formal bid in order to coerce Tottenham into selling.

Zinedine Zidane's side was initially believed to be close to signing Ajax's Donny van de Beek but, on Saturday, the Eredivisie team's head coach Erik ten Hag the 22-year-old will be staying this summer. As a result, the road is clear for Los Merengue to pursue Christian Eriksen as an equally capable alternative.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is expected to match Tottenham's reported 60 million pounds valuation of the midfielder. Meanwhile, the North Londoners are also set to make a final attempt to convince the Dane to stay at the club by making him one of the highest-earners at the club with £200,000 a week.
